The signal intensity of the cross-over resonance is generally larger than that of the resonance between atomic energy levels. The observed cross-over signal obtained from the saturation absorption spectrum has a line width of 12 MHz, which is attributed to the natural line width of atomic transition and the residual Doppler broadening due to the misalignment of the counter-propagating laser beams. As a result of our frequency control, the stability was improved to approximately 0.4 MHz for 100 s, though the free-running laser drifted almost 54 MHz.
