Brownmillerite related compounds Ba_2In_2O_5, Ba_3Y_4O_9 and BaLa_2O_4 having oxygen vacan cies were synthesized. Ionic conductivity and the cata lytic activity for the reduction of NO_x to N_2 increased at the temperature of order disorder transition of the oxygen vacancies of Ba_2In_2O_5, Ba_3Y_4O_9 and BaLa_2O_4. And it was found that the catalylic activity by order disorder transition of oxygen vacancies is hardly influenced by the coexistence with oxygen or propylene (C_3H_6) . Froun these results, it was clarified that the catalytic activity for the NO_x decomposition reaction appears at a lower temperature by controning the or der disorder transition temperature of oxygen vacan cies.
