The range of the index properties is not so clear, and the range of testing method is the same too. So, classification, physico-chemical properties, structure, density, water content, and thermal properties are made thetarget. It is described that the kinds, role, change, and present condition of the testing method in Japan, and the recent research and the future of index properties.
