The facilities have three units of a sub-surface flow system and three units of surface flow system for treating domestic wastewater from students’ hostels at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Three emergent macrophytes, Scirpus grossus, Arundo donax and Typha angustifolia were selected and the joint experiments were started from May 2004.The analyzed water quality parameters were biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrate (NO3-N), ammonium (NH4-N), total phosphorus (TP), dissolved oxygen (DO), suspended solids (SS) and total dissolved solids (TDS). Plant growth was observed in marked quadrants inside the units and the aboveground biomass was examined by harvesting along the longitudinal direction of the unit. The study was carried out at an average hydraulic retention time of 18 hrs. Cutting experiment was conducted January 2005 for elucidating the appropriate management method. The experiments will continue and the difference of their regrowth with temperate region will be discussed in 2005., text, application/pdf}, pages = {141--142}, title = {熱帯地域スリランカにおける植生浄化実験<研究成果報告>}, volume = {38}, year = {2005}, yomi = {タナカ, ノリオ and ユタニ, ケンタロウ} }
