This was the so-called division and privatization of JNR. 27 years have elapsed since JNR's privatization. JR Hokkaido has had enormous operating losses for 27 years. Recently, many irregularities involving the company, such as accidents, serious incidents and falsifications of inspection data for the tracks have happened due to lack of money. JR Hokkaido is an indispensable means of transportation in the Hokkaido area. It is expected that the company will improve the safety of train operations.
