Social movements and their actors have been important subjects in social science study. Social movements have been major objects in sociology, namely among theory of collective behaviors, functionalism, mobilization of resources theories and Marxism, etc. However they don’t have validity enough to analyze social movements of today. Therefore, it is indispensable to have an alternative view to methodological issues of analysis on that.\nFirstly, this paper refers to social movements theories. They distinguish such actions that they claim against existent organizations from that they are deviant (Merton). There are also “rational, self-interested individuals” in a movement (Olson). Recent Marxism identifies not only economic contradictions as a cause of movements but also cultural and social factors (Touraine).\nThen A.Melucci arranges these contributions systematically, and suggests an original theory of “New Social Movements”.
