Faculty of Education}, month = {}, note = {Sloyd has been a compulsory subject in which students make woodcraft, metalwork and textiles for 60 years in Sweden. It is not only a subject for making products, but also a subject with educational ideas. This study aimed to clarify for university students what is Sloyd education in order to get some suggestions for Home Economics sewing classes in Japan. This study conducted a questionnaire in English which included the following: usefulness and comments about former Sloyd classes taken in elementary school and junior high school, skills acquired in Sloyd classes and used in daily life, and things made in the classes. Answers were received from 40 students at one University in Sweden in March of 2015. It took 10 minutes for each student to answer it without giving their names. Most of the university students answered that Sloyd classes were fun because they were creative, stimulating and educational. They acquired both basic skills and applied skills. The process of problem solving that was important in Sloyd education, made students recognize their own efforts using trial and error and the skills they acquired in the classes.
