In this paper, we consider historically the problem of racial / ethnic discrimination / prejudice in Japan, related to modern Japan’s entry into Asia and invasion. In 1931, Japan started actively entering Asia and invading, starting with “Manchuria Incident”. Actually the colonial expansion policy was implemented long before that, and in 1895 Taiwan was taken over as Japanese territory. In 1910, Korea consolidation was carried out, and Japanese system of education system was laid to fuse “Nisshin”. “Creation renamed” is one of them, forcing the Korean people to rename the Korean name to the Japanese name. Using this “remodeling” colonial policy as an example, we examined the historical realities of Japanese ethnic discrimination. Currently, “hate speech” and “hate crime” are becoming a social problem, but a viewpoint to capture as a problem of ethnic discrimination · prejudice deeply related to the Japanese historical process is necessary. In the first chapter, historical and psychological considerations were made according to the following contents. 1 Race and Ethnic” discrimination and colonies of Japan, (1) Korea annexation and “Surname Creation and Renam, (2) “Surname Creation and Renam” done by “the children of the peninsula “, (3) “ assimilation into the “Japanese house system”(IE) and “Surname Creation and Renam”, (4) “Surname Creation and Renam” and the identity of the Korean people, (5) Language domination by Japan and the identity of the Korean people. In chapter 2, we discussed the stereotype and prejudice related to race / ethnicity from the viewpoint of social psychology using the concept of “attitude”. Prejudice is one of “attitudes” which is a constitutive concept in psychology. It is an important subject of social psychology to define manipulationally the attitude, approaches to realistic prejudice problems, to elucidate the actual situation and to clarify ways to solve and reduce it. In the discussion, the following items were considered. 2 Race / ethnic stereotype and prejudice, (1) Origin and characteristics of stereotypes, (2) definition of stereotype, (3) prejudice and its characteristics, (4) stereotype and prejudice. In Chapter 3, we focused on the measurement of ethnic stereotypes and prejudice. We organized and examined concrete research methodsaccording to the following contents.
