In recent Japanese society, however, many parents and families have difficulties in child-rearing. Especially, mothers have much anxiety related to child-reaing. This study examined the significance of “parenting” by parents. People become parents as a result of selecting and deciding to have a child. Simultaneously, they come to parent by selecting and deciding to raise a child. As their children grow up, parents come to face themselves through parent-child relationships. In other words, “Parenting” means “Protecting and raising children within the parent-child relationship as a result of the parents facing themselves.” However, many parents cannot parent despite having become parents.
