Although most children with dystrophinopathies do not show the reduction in IQ, previous studies have suggested that roughly 20 to 30 per cent of children with dystrophinopathies have IQs below 70 and their verbal IQs are slightly more vulnerable than performance IQs. There are data to suggest that children with dystrophinopathies may be associated with impairments in executive function. Some researches indicate that children with dystrophinopathies are characterized by a selective weakness in verbal working memory and it may cause the low academic achievements.
