By belonging to club activities, they share goals, deepen friendships, and build social relationships. Some students find club activities comfortable and \"ibasho\"(sense of own place). On the other hand, some students cannot consider club activities as \"ibasho.\" The aim of this study was to examine whether club activities are \"ibasho\" for junior high school students. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 175 junior high school students (male=76, female=99), and the collected data was statistically analyzed. The results indicated the followings. (1) In the comparison between athletic clubs and cultural clubs, athletic clubs functioned more as \"ibasho\" for students than culture clubs. However, no gender difference was observed in athletic clubs whereas club activities functioned as “ibasho” for girls rather than boys in cultural clubs. (2) A classroom functioned more as “ibasho” for students belonging to club activities than for independent students.
